Anochi is the first word of the Aseres HaDibros known as the Ten Commandments.
The Midrash says that Anochi is not a hebrew word, but an Egyptian word.
This is a conundrum! How can a word that is said to sum up the entire Torah be an Egyptian word and not Lashon Kodesh?!?!
The Lubavitcher Rebbe explains as follow;
From a Sicha said in תשי”ב 1962
The purpose of creation is that we make a dira b’tachtonim (dwelling place below) for Hashem. It is not just enough for us to bring the light of Hashem into the world, but we must bring Hashems light into the lowest of all places. This is why the enslavement had to happen in Mitzrayim, for Mitzryaim means Constriction and Limitation. It is the lowest of low in the material world. This is why Hashem used the word Anochi to proclaim that I am Hashem YOUR G-d! I am not just Hashem in Jerusalem Ir HaKodesh, but I am Hashem your G-d in the lowest place of all!
Hashem is OUR G-d in this Galus. We are truly on the verge of the final redemption! When Moshe stood at the edge of the sea and the Jewish complained, Hashem said, do not speak to me, but to the Children of Israel. This is a sign for us that we have the potential to bring about our own redemption. Through strengthening our commitment to Torah and Mitzvos and cleaving to the Nosi HaDor, the Tzaddik Yesod Olam we will merit to bring about the immediate redemption NOW, Bimhera V’Yameinu B’Karov Mamosh!
