The purpose of creation through the len’s of Chassidus, and Chabad specifically is to create a dwelling place for Hashem in this crassly material world. How does Chabad Chassidus achieve this?
שמע ישראל יהוה אלהינו יהוה אחד
There are thousands of pages of Chabad Chassidus dedicated to Shema. If you look at it right, every page of Chabad Chassidus is explaining Shema. How? If the entire purpose of Chabad Chassidus is to make a dwelling place for Hashem it must mean that Shema is the key to this.
The Aleph reprents 1. It represents that there is no other except 1; Hashem. Aleph stands for Alufo Shel Olam.
Aleph represents the Sefirah of Keser.
Keser is beyond intellect. It is literally the nothingness that wisdom is born from.
The Ches represents 8. The 7 levels of heaven and the earth.
The Ches shows a Jew that Hashem is present equally from the highest heights of Heaven down to this crass material world.
Ches represents the 8 sefiros: Chochmah, Binah, Chesed, Gevurah, Tiferes, Netzach, Hod, and Yesod.
These Seforios are Hashem’s method of bring the spiritual from nothing into something.
The Daled represents the 4 directions of Hashem’s presence on Earth. Though the Ches and the Daled, Hashem presence is manifested in all creation.
The Daled represents Malchus. Malchus is the lowest sefirah and its purpose is to transfer the energy of the upper sefiros down to the next level.
It has no characteristic of its own and is therefore poor דל which means poor.
Daled represents the four worlds: Atzilus, Beriah, Yetzira, Asiyah
Daled represents the four main elements of creation: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth
This is to show that Hashem is present equally in Keser of Atzilus and the dirt in our backyard.
When to meditate?
Until recently my understanding was that the mediation was to be done when saying the word Echad. This causes two problems, the first being that this is not the prescribed form of meditation laid out by the Alter Rebbe in Chabad Chassidus. Second, when you drag out אחד like Eh-Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-DUH you add a dagesh to the Daled and that represents Gevurah. No one need any extra Gevurah in their life so avoid such a Daled at all costs.
The Alter Rebbe says in the siddur that meditating on אחד gives a personlong life
Like all meditation, it takes practice. Your yeter hara wants you to avoid meditation at all costs because that gives you a stronger connection to Hashem. He will flood your mind with other thoughts especially evil ones to get you to stop. With practice you will ultimately be successful and your yetzer hara will have no choice but to give in.
Practice, practice, practice
